Can beginners attend classes?
Absolutely! Everybody starts at the beginning. YNG welcomes you as you are, providing a space that nurtures and supports you on your yoga journey. If you have concerns regarding pre-existing injuries or health care concerns, please consult your doctor before practicing. All our instructors are well advanced in the field of yoga, but we are not doctors. We teach self-advocation and learning to listen to your body and understand its limits.
I can’t sit still and can’t touch my toes. Is yoga for me?
One of the great things about yoga, is it levels the playing field. In life, we all have struggles and limits, and though everyone comes in a different body with different abilities, the challenges for each student is real. Yoga reminds us that each of us has a path to travel. At YNG, there is no competition. People come to YNG with differing levels of experience, but there is a class for everyone (even if you can’t touch your toes!). We’re all learning. It’s a constant evolution! Talk to us, and we can point you in the right direction.
Which class level is right for me?
All of our instructors are trained to teach classes to “all levels.” At YNG we believe in an “it depends” rule of thumb. We recommend students that have never practiced, or are nervous about understanding what to do, start out with YNG Roots. YNG Roots classes focus on teaching the foundations and structure of the poses, building a safe, lifelong practice. It’s a great place to start or come back to any time you need to refine or recover from injuries in a safe and nurturing environment. Set yourself up for success by choosing the class that is right for you, our friendly staff is knowledgeable on all class structures for you to make an informed decision. At YNG we encourage you to embrace the variety in all classes and all styles! We also offer private and semi-private yoga sessions to students who want a more private introduction to yoga. Please contact us to schedule your private session. Each class is designed to show you how to take your body through a full range of functional motion. We link the poses together (asana) in specific way (vinyasa) with mindful breath work (pranayama) becoming present and observing how different you begin to feel. Everyone is welcome: Yoga is for all people! Modifications are given in most classes. Please let the instructor know if you’re not comfortable with hands-on assistance.
What should I expect?
While individual classes will vary to some extent, yoga classes are made up of a series of poses called asanas. Asanas include standing poses, seated poses, twists, forward bends, back bends, and, in some classes, inversions may be offered. Before Class: • Before class begins, let the instructor know about anything that might affect your practice, such as pregnancy or being on your “moon”. Your instructor will happily offer you some modifications. Please consult a doctor for clearance for any and all medical issues that may concern your practice. Upon Arrival: • Please be sure to turn off your cell phone. Off, like airplane mode, off! After Class: • Get plenty of rest! The body needs time to rest and digest all the efforts of class. Be sure to allow a little “surrender” time to integrate all the practice has offered, hit the sheets and get plenty of sleep. Experts say that sleep is as important, as the food you eat and the exercise you do!
What are the different types of yoga?
We offer a rich infusion of several traditions of yoga. Our YNG sequences are influenced by multiple modalities. The common denominator in all our classes is that the body is coming back into harmony with the mind and the spirit. When we become present to the breath and its powerful influence on cell regeneration and animation, the mind quiets and the physical body strengthens.
Why do teachers offer hands–on assists?
Teachers offer hands-on assists in order for students to avoid injury and more fully experience the postures. Please accept any assistance by your teacher in the gentle spirit of gentle guidance in which it is offered. If you’re uncomfortable with assists, or you just prefer our own personal space, please let the instructor know and we will honor your space until invited in.
Do you have childcare?
We don’t have childcare facilities. We have been asked if children can be left in the lobby with coloring books or iPads. We’re sorry, but for insurance reasons and more, that is not an option.
Is there a place where I can change and store my things during class?
We have changing rooms as well as cubby space in the lobby for your clothing and personal items during class. We recommend you leave valuables at home/ work. YNG IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN PROPERTY.
Do you have showers?
Yes, we have 1 shower available in each locker room for the men and the women. There is a changing room/restroom for both men and women.
Do you sell gift certificates?
We offer gift certificates for any amount. The gift of peace is priceless! These are available for purchase online or come into the studio.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, This question is two-fold. To cancel an autopay membership, please email us at info@yngstudios.com , for auto pay members. Click here for details. A 30 days notice for cancellation is required for the Monthly membership and family membership. A request to cancel needs to be made at least 30 days before your next scheduled payment. What is yoga?
Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline, originating in India 5,000+ years ago. The word “yoga” in Sanskrit literally translates to “yoke,” meaning to join or unite. In India yoga is considered a scientific system for achieving total health, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. By building on three main structures — meditation, breathing, and postures. — the yoga practice increases the body’s efficiency and total health and wellbeing. The 8-limbs are integral in creating a peaceful way of life on and off the mat.
Is yoga a religion?
Yoga is not a religion, but a spiritual endeavor. The Sutra’s, which was written by Patanjali, is an ancient text of aphorisms presenting a moral code of ethics for the yogi to follow that will lead, inevitably to bliss (samadhi). This ancient text outlines the 8-Limb Path, and is the guide of restraints and observations to our reactions and deep seated habits. It helps us to cultivate a layered awareness that, over time, becomes part of our daily life. Disciplined adherence to these texts gives us the freedom to find peace and contentment that is the promise and gift of the practice. For many, this is a channel to connect to a higher power, to source, to the Divine, to God. This is not a religion, but a spiritual endeavor.
Why do we chant “OM” at the beginning and/or end of class?
OM (AUM) is the universal vibration that is the sound of the creation of all things. It is a sacred mantra and a mind instrument. Vibration begins healing by creating resonance of the cells that make up our bodies, allowing for a higher function of all systems in the body/mind. The sound of “OM” both calms the mind and the central nervous system. It’s often chanted three times to represents the three worlds of the Soul — the Past, the Present and the Future.
